Discipleship Training

“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Registration has now closed!

What is discipleship:

The intentional pursuit of knowing Christ, becoming like Christ, and obeying His commands. In discipleship training we will spur each other on as we follow Christ, take up our cross daily and strive to live out God’s calling to go and make disciples.

Jesus Christ has called every believer to discipleship and to make disciples. The very essence of a calling signifies that there is a Caller. So many people share how they have a job, but they don’t know what their calling is. In Luke 5/Matt 4 Jesus encounters such a man, Peter the fisherman, who has a job but not a calling. After the miraculous catch of fish, Peter falls on his knees before Jesus and says, “Go away from me LORD, for I am a sinful man.” He has been given a glimpse of Jesus the Righteous One. Jesus in turn tells Peter, “Do not be afraid. Follow me and I will make you a fisher of men.” Peter now has a calling - to be a disciple of Jesus who will make disciples of others.

Jesus' call is two fold. 1) Follow Me: Jesus is saying be with Me, walk with Me, know Me, eat with Me, talk with Me. In this we know that our Caller wants relationship and intimacy. And 2) I will make you a fisher of men: Jesus is calling them to Himself, so that they can know His heart, follow His example and be empowered to go and do the same - to go and make disciples.

Peter hears his Caller - and immediately leaves his boat and all that he knows behind, because he has a calling. He will experience some of the most glorious revelations of Christ, and also face some of the most difficult things life can throw at him. But his life is written in history as one who was a disciple of Christ and who went on to make disciples of Christ.

The LORD has called His church to disciple by intentionally investing into the lives of others.
